We are fortunate to have several locally based organizations that do first rate work toward maintaining water quality here in the Poconos. We maintain a close relationship with the Brodhead Creek Watershed Association which carries on an ambitious water monitoring program. |

The Monroe County Conservation District carries out a wide range of environmentally oriented acitivities. The District administers permits for activities that impact the water supply. It's an excellent point of contact if you have questions about permitted activity. The District's educational programs are nationally recognized. It's a great place to bring kids to learn more about the rich natural environment we enjoy in the Poconos. |

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) protects more than 10,000 acres of Pocono land, providing habitat for wildlife and globally rare plant species. The Conservancy enjoys broad-based international support because of the solid scientific basis of its conser- vation decisions and its non-confrontational approach to preserving biodiversity. TNC depends on the financial support of individuals and corporations for its efforts. Contributions of land or granting of conservation easements by property owners can have favorable tax consequences for donors. In the summer months, TNC's Pocono office conducts fascinating nature walks and children's programs. |

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (renamed from the DER in 1994) is the state's top environmental agency. PADEP maintains an extensive website which is part of the state's laudable effort to make information available via the Internet. If you need to take an environmental question or concern beyond the level of a local supervisor, contact the nearest office of the DEP. Monroe County residents should use the information to the right. Other Pennsylvania residents should visit this linked page on DEP's website. |
